    Re: Other Christian Comics

The art in some of those was really good, they were interesting, yet fall into that same-old-same-old pattern of telling a Bible story, testimony, or just sharing faith with someone else. There were no super hero based ones or ones similar to Archangels, Angel Wars, The Guardian line, Honor Studios - War in Paradise, Armorquest, Bibleman, and much more. It was disappointing in that respect.Sharing our faith is important yes, but where is the entertainment? Where's the adventure? Where's the fighting for right and freedom and more?

I hear August 1 is the street date for them, and that from one of the writers, so it must at least have an element of truth.

They are out NOW! CBD has them:

They look pretty good...B/W, about half the size of a regular comic, around 150 pages. Haven't read any all the way through yet, but they all look fun. Professionally done!

    Re: Other Christian Comics

I haven't finished any yet, but they are professionally done. The Manga Bible isn't a straightforward representation of scripture, more jokey and comical, but nothing over the top. Hand of the Morningstar is an intriguingly different twist on a superhero team. Son of Samson has an interesting take on the story of Samson. Tomo starts out with a cool-looking fantasy-style backstory, but I haven't got deep into that one or the others yet. I'll post more as I finish them...

The ones I'm looking forward to the most is THE KINGDOMS and MORNINGSTAR. So tell me if those are good.

There's actually a manga jesus story that's coming in September. That looks pretty cool.

    Re: Other Christian Comics

Hand of the Morningstar is first on my list...I'm half way through #1 and it is very intriguing! I think I know where they are going with it, but not sure, and if I'm right it just piles on more questions! I'll let you know.

Manga Messiah is very cool! I got an advance copy, so if you like manga (and in color, too!) then get this book! It follows the story from all four Gospels synoptically; the art is by actual Japanese artists, not just someone drawing in the manga style; the retelling is dialogue-heavy, not text-box heavy, as in many versions; the characters are given true human dimensions, and everyone has a distinct look to them. The American publishers know the Gospel and are making sure that this is both accurate and evangelistic, great for sharing with those who do not know Christ but would be willing to read manga. Extremely well done! High marks!

I finished Hand of the Morningstar...very cool. Good actual Christian content, good character development, intriguing story, and a nice twist that I'm looking forward to them writing themselves out of! I won't ruin it for you, but if you like superhero stuff get this one!

    Re: Other Christian Comics

It's a team comic. The five members have gotten powers from someone (something?) called the Morningstar, so they go off to do great things all over the planet. All praise goes to the Morningstar, though...they don't take any of the praise themselves, and they do all kids of good deeds, humanitarian aid, etc. But there's something deeper at the core of the organization that doesn't seem to fit just right, and we haven't seen who this "Morningstar" person/thing is yet, so there is a lot of intrigue and drama. Very nicely done.

    Re: Other Christian Comics

All right - the new Zondervan series that most surprised me was Tomo. It's the story of a Japanese girl who loses her mother and comes to America to live with her grandfather...boooooooooring, right? Wrong! It has a cool fantasy element tied into it, and the art is extremely well done...these guys did work for Disney and Big Idea, so they know what they're doing, but it isn't cartoony, just softer than what you'll find in more realistic art. And it works for this book! There is a very cool backstory that is still a mystery after two issues, real-life intrigue for the girl (assimilating to American culture, etc.), it's fun, smart, action packed, and has subtle spiritual elements that seem to be growing with each issue. I can only assume that the payoff will be with issue 4, and it should be a big payoff. Anyway, if you like fantasy, martial arts, fish-out-of-water stories, or just a good plot fully realized in script and art, get this book!
