Michael Davis Hosts Panel at 2007 Comic-Con

Michael Davis will be attending this year's Comic Con International on July 28th.  He will be moderating the Black Panel, an annual discussion panel attended by creators and fans of Black comic heroes.  Thanks to Glyphs for the newsflash.

You know, to me this seems like reverse racism. Imagine if you went to a comic convention and there was an annual discussion panel attended by creators and fans of WHITE comic heroes. Imagine the uproar that would ensue! Yet here we have a have a panel for Black creators and characters in comics. And just following the world's lead, Michael Davis joined this reverse racsim discussion. How Christian is that? You go to a discussion that highlights the differences between blacks and whites and other heroes and creators instead of having a multi-discussion panel that discusses the similarities between humanity. Instead of celebrating the things that isolate us from each other we need to celebrate the things that bring us together. I am sure Jesus would not sit in on a discussion that focussed solely on Black creators and Black heroes anymore than he would sit in on a panel that discussed white creators and white characters. Stop this reverse racism. It is not becoming of a Christian to participate in these sorts of things.

That's  pratically every panel at Comic-Con!

Have you been to the Black Panel?! No one is excluded from the Black Panel (as a matter of fact there was a White man on the Black Panel - the creator of Black Panther). The purpose of the panel is to celebrate the contributions that have been made to include African Americans (or Blacks) in comics.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

On that note, the comic blog Glyphs has some commentaries that further clarify what the Black Panel is about:

I understand what archangel was saying, i was thinking it myself. And even if it is to celebrate their contributions or whatever, it'd never fly with white folks.

The Black Panel is just a title to identify the focus of what's to be discussed. It's not an exclusive organization. The panel wasn't only black people.

There could never be "The White Panel" because there are far too many contributions in the comic and animation industry made by white people to center around a one hour discussion.

Re: Michael Davis Hosts Panel at 2007 Comic-Con

The Black Panel is also good exposure.

The sad reality is the comics media focuses overwhelmingly on comics with White characters, especially from Marvel and DC.  So, the Black Panel is a great way to make comic fans of every race aware of the quality and variety of Black comics on the stands.

Another plus is that highlighting the diversity of comics helps the medium shed its "For Whites Only" image.  This in turn helps comics attract a wide audience.

I missed the Black panel, but it was  great that you  were there. You  guys were a much needed counter to all of the demons, Zombies and assassins that were featured  there.

The Black Panel was highly entertaining, uplifting and informative. The weatlh of knowledge the audience had access to was immense.

Debating the idea of reverse racism in regards to this panel is petty and counterproductive. Unlike other panels at comic conventions, the Black Panel is inclusive of all people. A large part of the audience represents a variety of races and gender. Like Christian panels, everyone is welcome.

If we dont showcase the talents and accomplishments of our community, who will?
